A bit about me...
Born in Slovenija, moved to the US when I was 13 years old. I grew up in the Midwest, Kansas then moved to Milwaukee.
By profession I am a software engineer who has primarily focused on Web development. This has included more technologies than I expected from my professional experience so far.
My Web/Dev experience at a high level has included:
- Front-end:
- React
- JavaScript
- Back-end:
- NodeJS
- Express
- Java
- Gradle
- Docker
- AWS:
- Lambda
- S3 Buckets
- AWS Glue
- EC2 instances hosting Redis/Valkey Caches
- Aurora DB
- SQS
- SNS
- Database:
- PostgreSQL
- Aurora DB
- Mongo DB
- Redis/Valkey
- and more...
The above list seems extensive and even I am surprised—it's much more exposure than I expected when my career started.
My Hobbies
Things I love to do outside of my daily grind...
Sailing
It just does it for me, but also more than that. Milwaukee has a great sailing community and I have met some of the friendliest people through sailing.Racing is where I really found enjoyment. I love the competitive spirit my team has and the knowledge I am able to tap into from experienced sailors. As a younger person out there I am a hot commodity for teams looking for crew.
Shameless brag, I am on a back-to-back championship team for J-24 Friday night racing in Milwaukee. MAST. We won 2024 and 2025 seasons. We are also back-to-back champions of Louie's Last Regatta, the final seasonal regatta in Milwaukee.I grew up on sailboats with my grandfather, spending my 4 months of Covid lockdown sailing with him on his Catamaran in Fiji.
Staying Active
I feel that some people don't consider this a hobby, but why not? I willingly spend my personal time doing this activity.I love social sports, but probably some less common ones...
Anyways, I got into lifting in highschool and have been doing it steadily since. In Kansas City I got into Rock Climbing (Bouldering mostly) and really enjoyed it, because it met a great group of people doing it.After which moving to Milwaukee I transitioned to sailing in the summers and lifting in the winters.
Games
I love games, board games, card games, video games, group games, I'm about it all.
In Milwaukee I picked up chess again after finding out there is a local chess group that meets weekly at a coffee shop and there is a hustler that is actively at the beach in Milwaukee. Wait, a beach in Milwaukee? Yes.
I play video games occassionally a couple I can name are: Dota 2, Pokemon, Super Smash Bros, Hades, Civilization, Age of Empires, Path of Exile, and that about sums it up.
I also love board games and card games. I have a lot of card games now that I have learned playing with friends.
Cooking
I love to cook.I love to try different foods and interesting recipes.I also back the occasional dessert which are typically Slovenijan pastries and I am learning more.I also pickle, ferment, and make my own jam and hot sauces.
Plants
I got my first plant in KC at a plant store that is no longer around. It's an agave plant. While I was learning about them I found out that they bloom once in their life and then die. That is assuming they have lived a happy life.My goal is to keep it alive until it blooms.I also have a rubber tree I grew from a branch my friend gave me.I also grew a sweet potato plant and harvested the sweet potatoes it produced in my apartment.
Snowboarding
Shredding Gnar! :)
